The weather was ideal for cycling and before you could say ‘Tour de France’ it was time to stop at the Turners Hill ‘Caff’ and enjoy a carbohydrate boost provided by Gill Smith and her team.
Now, with over half of the run completed, it was a matter of gingerly re-engaging with the saddle; ignoring the road-side signs advertising ‘Instant Bum Relief’ and moving off towards the formidable Ditchling Beacon.
Derrick Belcher was impressive in actually reaching the top without stopping and as everyone was congratulating him and enjoying the view and an ice cream, they were amazed to see Lord Stokes speed by. Every event needs a winner and a delighted Bos was first to congratulate his Lordship on being first over the line at Brighton. This was a sentiment shared by the admiring spectators lined along the seafront.
So everyone had a great time. Fortunately there were no accidents or major upsets to report apart from two chains coming off along the way and a softening tyre on the bike of our organiser and team leader, Graham Sinclair. After a quick shower it was therefore off the Sandra’s to enjoy a wonderful spread, swap stories and raise a glass to Geoff.
